EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR EMERITUS

The founder helps where he is able. He writes one monograph a season when time allows between consultations, advisories and serving on boards, panels and commissions. He is most at home when helping Members see around all the corners of their arts, design and culture-based clusters, superblocks and corridors. His training and advising schedule calls for him to focus his time on the Great Lakes and Mid-South region this season; he will be available to the Advisory team by cell and laptop when not in his studio. His private, heavily screened  Chicago line for Members with ongoing Projects: 903.831.9219. Dr. Thomas is grateful for all the notes and letters, calls and e-mails he's received from firends, colleagues and associates since his retirement from the Executive Director's chair.

QUOTE FOR A SEASON

I INCREASED THE SIZE OF NINEVEH, MY ROYAL CITY. I WIDENED ITS SQUARES AND LET LIGHT INTO ITS ALLEYS AND STREETS, AND MADE THEM AS BRIGHT AS DAY... NOT ONE OF THE KINGS BEFORE ME... HAD THOUGHT TO WIDEN THE AREA OF THE CITY, TO BUILD A WALL, TO LAY OUT STREETS, OR TO DIG A CANAL AND TO SET OUT TREES; NOR TO THE PALACE... WHOSE AREA WAS TOO SMALL, WHOSE CONSTRUCTION WAS NOT ARTISTIC... THE OUTER WALL I BUILT AND MADE IT MOUNTAIN HIGH. ABOVE THE CITY AND BELOW THE CITY I LAID OUT GARDENS.
